The concerted efforts of the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in resumption of the passenger trains, have brought cheers to the migrants belonging to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh states as they would be able to attend the marriages of their dear one and social events in their ancestral villages and towns.

As per information collected from the city railway station, as many as 243 migrants left the city on Thursday in Amritsar-Jaynagar Express, commonly known as Shaheed Express at 3.30 pm. On Wednesday, around 112 passengers had boarded the train for Bihar and other parts of Uttar Pradesh from the station.

23-year-old Neha, who along with her family was going to attend the marriage of her cousin in Gorakhpur, said that due to non-operation of the trains, we have cancelled the program to go there but thanks to the steps being taken by Punjab Government for restoring the services.

She said that the marriage of her cousin falls on November 30 and her relatives in Gorakhpur are also happy to know the starting of the train services.

Sanjeev Kumar, 38, from Chappra in Bihar, who works as construction contractor here, said that his family in Bihar is holding a Jagran and he was not sure to participate in the event due to non-operation of trains.

He said that he even failed to go to his town Sapra during the Chhath festival on November 20.

Kumar thanked the government for its effective talks with the railway ministry which yielded positive outcomes and now he is going today to meet the family and attend the event.

Arvind Mishra, 40, a factory worker, who was going to Bihar’s Samastipur to meet his ailing mother, said that he had not visited his town for the last eight months and was eagerly waiting for the restoration of trains’ services.

He said that his mother was not well and admitted to hospital there. He said that now he would be able to meet the mother and would ensure proper care of her.
