A four member Central team headed by Joint Secretary Ashutosh Agnihotri visited areas hit by cyclone Nivar in Puducherry and districts of Cuddalore and Villupuram today.
They spoke to affected residents and inspected damages caused in these areas to crops and infrastructure.Another four member team visited Vellore and Tirupattur districts today to assess the damage inflicted by the cyclone.
The team were briefed on the havoc wreaked by the cyclone by district officials.Later, they inspected the damage caused to papaya and paddy fields at Kandipedu and Ilayanallur and also inspected the Ponnai anaicut and Mathandakuppam lake in Vellore district where breaches took place.
Puducherry, Vellore and Tirupattur districts bore the brunt of the fury of Cyclone Nivar on 25 and 26 November.Heavy downpours coupled with gusty winds damaged crops and houses, uprooted trees and electric poles and caused flooding of major water bodies.
